So…I played my Tau ‘knight’ in a few games before the new codex dropped, along with the new Gargantuan Creature known as the Storm Surge. I took an immediate dislike to the model (aesthetically and, perhaps more importantly, financially). After playing in a tournament without fielding a Storm Surge, I decided my Tau need one. So, here I am, re-envisioning the ‘knight’ as a Storm Surge:

16 missile pods represent the Storm Surge’s rocket launchers. 4 seeker missiles (new style) on drones represent the 4 Destroyer missiles.

Thanks for looking!

Got a chance to put the ‘Knight’ on the table (play it) AND to stand it next to an actual Crusader. Not too shabby. Pic makes it pretty obvious that it will give up a lot more AV12 Side Armor shots than the official Knight.

side by side with crusader

So, when I started building this, the Knight Crusader didn’t exist. This is my attempt: The main gun is either the rapid-fire battle cannon or the thermal cannon. The heavy burst cannon is the avenger gatling cannon (side note: Word Press thinks ‘gatling’ is spelled wrong). The air-fragmentation thing (that no one ever takes) is going to be the heavy flamer for the time being. I’m thinking about using flamer bits to convert something more appropriate. And the missile pods are the heavy stubbers.

Does it work? Good enough? In case you’re wondering: Yes, it’s sitting on a trivet on my stove top. Best light-box ever?

Still haven’t resolved the close-combat weapons to my satisfaction, but I don’t have the bits on hand to do what I think I want to do in any case. Color Scheme is going to be black/brown/yellow with metal bits.

So…getting incrementally (choose a very small increment) closer to finishing the build. Here are the top-plates for the feet. Guess what they are?

Give up? It’s the rear hatch of a Wave Serpent.

Chassis is largely finished, save for adding bits here and there to hide gaps. Tops of the feet still need to be finished. Weapon mounts are magnetized. I moved the ‘hips’ up from the original location because it looks better (using a Locust as a general reference). The possibility of adding crab claws or some other arm-like thing remains. Given current timeline, might finish by end of year 2015? >.<

For the past couple of months, I’ve been cobbling together a conversion of an Imperial Knight to run with my Tau.

The story is that the chassis used to be a deep-water/high pressure plasma-welding construction rig. Where a pair of crab-like manipulator claws were originally located, some Tau Earth Caste genius decided to install an experimental cannon. The plasma drones have been over-charged and can now do short, super-intense pulses (i.e. ‘D’ attacks) in close combat. When not in close combat, they function as low strength plasma burst guns (i.e. Stubbers). The entire thing is unstable, so any Tau forces deployed with it are strictly forbidden from coming too close.

Pics to this point:

Original concept for hull; crabshell with the close combat and cannon arms mounted in the drone slots. Scrapped this idea pretty quickly as too labor-intensive (and well beyond my meager skill-set).

Cannon installed. Yes it's underslung. Yes, I know what it's going to look like on the table. :)

Quick update (12/4/14): First foot largely done save for packing the cockpit with plasticard/greenstuff to provide a better seat for the main shaft and fiddling with the armor for the top of the foot.

I may also put an actuator on the 'big' toe.

Closer look. I'm worried that the knight won't look like its weight is over the foot. But I have some ability to adjust angles and hopefully that will suffice.

Quick Update (12/10/14): Feet complete save for the armor on the top of the foot, glued to plasticard that will eventually be glued to whatever I use as a base (mdf, most likely). Legs not in their final position (and not glued into feet yet).

Another angle. Upper thighs/knees will definitely be covered with armor. Lower legs might get some too.
